George H. Warner was born in 1842[1] in Berne. He was the son of John Warner and Catherine West and the brother of Peter W. Warner, who died of disease Andersonville Prison while he was serving in the Civil War.

Death
He died September 28, 1863 from sickness he had contracted while serving in the Union Army in Louisiana. His body was returned to Berne and he was buried in the Beaverdam Cemetery[4]. (In Heroes of Albany it says he was buried in the Lutheran Church Cemetery, but that does not seem to be correct.)

Diaries of George H. Warner
The Civil War diaries of George H. Warner from 1862 and 1863 are posted on the Berne Historical Project site. George was 17 when he went off to war. He returned home less than a year later and died September 28, 1863 from sickness he had contracted while serving in the Union Army in Louisiana. The following January his younger brother, Peter William Warner, lied about his age and joined the Union Army. Peter died November 1864 in Andersonville Prison at the age of 15.

GEORGE H. WARNER was born in Bern, 1844. He enlisted in the Tenth Regiment, Co. C, October 1, 1862, and died at home of disease taken in the service, September 28, 1863. He was buried at the Lutheran church Cemetery, Bern.
