Allen was the son of Peleg Reinhart from Berne. Peleg served with Company D of the 7th New York Volunteer Heavy Artillery. All members of the company are listed on the scroll, with no indication of their hometown. Therefore, the list below includes men from outside the Hilltown area.

CARNIVAL OF BLOOD: Hilltown soldiers in the 7th Regiment

A total of 2,623 men enlisted in the 7th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment between July 18, 1862, and April 7, 1865. Only 1,941 of these men served with the Regiment during the great battles in Virginia during the summer of 1864. The Roster which follows contains the names of the men in that select group, who served in the Seventh at any time during the period from May 18, 1864, through August 25, 1864.

In the Roster, the names are spelled as given by the individual at the time of his enlistment. Alternate spellings are also included, where such versions were carried in any of the various official records. The place of birth. age at time of enlistment , and occupation are all as given by the enlistee.

Note: The names in this site use the correct spelling as best as can be determined using a consensus from as many sources as possible.
