Birth

Walter was born in Knox, New York on July 13, 1924, [1] to Earl and Gertrude Alger Colliton. [2]

Education

Walter graduated from Duanesburg High School, he attended Hudson Valley Community College and RPI in Troy and was graduated from Union College, class of 1965 with a degree in electrical engineering. Also in his later years he attended Schenectady County Community College. [2]

Marriage and Children

His first wife, who he married in 1951, Johonna Boughton, died in 1991. His second wife, Lula Williams died in 1993. Walter had two daughters--Linda and Constance Colliton. [2]

Occupation

Walter worked for General Electric and had lived in Danville, Illinois and Madisonville, Kentucky returning to Scotia in 1984 where he has lived since. Walter retired in 1987 from G.E. [2]

Military Service

He was a veteran of World War II with the Navy and was an Aviation Machinist's Mate Second Class. [2]

Death

Walter died on Monday, March 24, 2003 at home with his family by his side. [2]

Obituary GLENVILLE -- Walter Alger Colliton, 79, of Ballston Road, died on Monday, March 24, 2003 at home with his family by his side. Walter was born in Knox, N.Y. and lived in his childhood home until 1959. He was the son of Earl and Gertrude Alger Colliton. Walter graduated from Duanesburg High School, he attended Hudson Valley Community College and RPI in Troy and was graduated from Union College, class of 1965 with a degree in electrical engineering. Also in his later years he attended Schenectady County Community College. Walter worked for General Electric and had lived in Danville, Ill. and Madisonville, Ky. returning to Scotia in 1984 where he has lived since. Walter retired in 1987 from G.E. He was a veteran of World War II with the Navy and was an Aviation Machinist's Mate Second Class. Walter was a private pilot and flew single engine airplanes, he also designed, built and flew his planes. He was associated with the Duanesburg, Edinburgh and Schenectady County Airports as well as his two privately owned airports. He was a member of the G.E. Elfun Society, Union College Alumni Schenectady Airport Air Museum, American Association of Private Pilots and a member of Christ Community Church of Carman. His first wife, who he married in 1951, Johonna Boughton Colliton, died in 1991. His second wife, Lula Williams Colliton died in 1993. Walter is survived by his companion Mary Gaylord of Scotia and her family; Walter's daughters, Linda White and her husband John of Rotterdam, Constance Arellano and her husband Juan of Rotterdam; his extended family, Janice Bird and her husband, Rev. James Bird of Canton, Pa., Lori Dempsey and her husband Rob of Hiram, Ohio, Diane Twigg of Williamsport, Pa. and Barbara Pushnik and her husband Jeffrey of Las Vegas; grandfather of James Weakley Jr., Johonna Nolan and her husband Joseph, David Cable and his wife Monica, John Arellano, Ross, Jennings, Seth, Guston, Mitchell, Dwight, William, Jinnette, Steve, Cheryl, Brian and Jeffrey; great-grandfather of Casey, Carey, Cadey and Carley Nolan, Alexis and Alyson Cable, Westcot, Chloe, Bryce, Caitlin, Daytona, Aaron, Rebakah, Hadassah, Ethan, Shawn and Kyle. Mr. Colliton was the brother of Dennis Colliton and his wife Margaret of Delanson; uncle of Dennis Colliton and his wife Sue, Kathleen and her husband Michael and Carol Dean and her husband Greg. A special thanks to David, John and Greg for all their help with Dad's dreams. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street, with the Rev. James Bird and the Rev. Kenneth Hetchler officiating. Calling hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Grove Cemetery, Delanson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walter's memory to the Empire State Aerosciences Museum, 130 Saratoga Rd., Glenville, NY 12302, Schenectady County Community College, 78 Washington Ave., Schenectady, NY 12305 or to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
