Birth

Eli Deitz was born in Berne ca. 1837, the son of David Deitz and Martha Danforth. His brother Samuel Deitz was also a soldier in the Civil War. Their father presumably died before 1850.[1] His brother, Samuel, listed his parents asDavid Dietz and Martha Wright on his registration to serve in the Civil War. It is possible that their mother remarried and Wright was her current surname.

Occupation

Before the war Eli was a farm laborer[2]
