Obituary
Auto Kills Area Man Near Knox Last Friday Morning
An Albany county man was killed early last Friday when he was struck by a car while walking in Knox.
The victim was Millard Stevens, 63, Star Route, Altamont, a laborer employed by the State Highway Department.
The driver of the car, Raymond G. Morrow, who lives at the Berne Hotel, Berne, told Cpl. J. J. Buckley, BCI, and Trooper L. E. Schermerhorn he was blinded by the morning sun and did not see the man until it was too late to avoid striking him.
Mr. Morrow, an employee of the Voorhessville Army Depot, was drving to work at the time of the accident with Jay C. Francis, Star Route, Altamont, a fellow employee.
The driver said Mr. Stevens was walking on the highway in the same direction the car was traveling. The accident occurred near Mr. Stevens' home approximately a mile and a half east of Knox.
The body was taken to Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont.
Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula Stevens.

Millard Stevens was killed last Friday morning when he was struck by an automobile, while on his way to the home of his niece, Mrs. Wallace Quay. He lived only a few minutes after the accident. Dr. D. W. Sweeney attended him. The body was taken to the Fredendall Funeral home, where services were held Monday afternoon. A large number attended the viewing Sunday evening, also the funeral service Monday. Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife Lulu, one stepson, Wagar Nichols; brothers, Frank, Lucius, Everett and Webster Stevens; sisters, Mrs. Minnie Hunt of Tennessee, Mrs. Leola K. Smith of Altamont R. D., Mrs. Ida Wagoner and Mrs. Byron Adams. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Interment was at Knox cemetery.

Mrs. Lulu Stevens of Hudson, Fla, passed away Oct 24. She was the widow of the late Millard Stevens. Her son, Wagner Nichol, survives. Mrs Stevens was a former resident of Knox and Breakabeen.
