Adam Campbell was born in Knox, Albany County, NY[1] on August 2, 1842[2] to William Campbell (B. Aug 17, 1804, D. Oct 11, 1855) and his wife Elizabeth Werner (B. Feb 12, 1803, D. July 10, 1857).[3][2][4] The exact day of his birth is in debate as it has been given both as August 3rd[2] and the 30th.[3] His parents both died before Adam was 14 years of age.[3] He possibly had a older brother Eugene Campbell, who was born 1840 in Rensselaerville.[1]
Occupation
At the time of his enlistment in the Civil War, Adam was working as a laborer.[1]
Life
Adam grew up as one of the youngest children in a large family in Knox where his father William was a farmer.[5] His father William died first in 1855 when Adam was only 13 and his mother died two years later.
