The Woodlawn Cemetery, managed by the Woodlawn Cemetery Association, Inc. is at 1820 Helderberg Trail (State Rte. 443) .4 mile west of the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School on the east side of the road. Irma Wagner, secretery (1984).
History
The cemetery was dedicated Monday, 11 Oct. 1897 by the Rev. John Kling of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in a brief and impressive ceremony according to the newspaper. The first burial was that of William Zeh, who was buried Friday, 13 Oct. 1897. Some earlier stones are the result of reburials from other cemeteries.
Burials
- Berne Historical Project - During Berne Heritage Days 2005 the Berne Historical Project webmasters, Gordon and Joan Wright, photographed all the headstones in Woodlawn. Joan then spent several months transcribing the photos and entering the information on the Berne Historical Project site.
- New York Gravestones Photo Project also has photos and transcriptions.
