History

The graves from many cemeteries were removed from the Town of Westerlo with the construction of the Alcove Reservoir. Many were left unmarked as they were removed to the Indian Fields Cemetery.

"The City built two reservoirs back in the 1930's. Alcove Reservoir was one of them. In doing so, they flooded the hamlet of Indian Fields (in Coeymans)/ Many small burying grounds were slated to be submerged, so the City paid to have men go to each and probe in the ground with iron rods for skeletal remains. When the Water Dept. moved these various Burying Grounds there, they moved a body and a headstone at the same time." John Travis.
