Helping neighbors in need: Members of the Helderberg Kiwanis, including Anne Lauenstein, at right, packed 24 boxes of ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal. With her is a representative of the Hilltown Community Resource Center, which oversaw the project.
To the Editor:
On Nov. 17, members of the Helderberg Kiwanis met in Westerlo at the site of the Hilltowns Resource Center to prepare 24 boxes containing all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Each box contained a turkey, stuffing mix, potatoes, carrots, a whole cabbage, a pie, rolls, and other holiday treats.
Each year, the Kiwanis club responds to the call to help those less fortunate on Thanksgiving and other holidays such as Christmas. It is all part of our commitment to help our neigh- bors in the towns of Knox, Berne, and Westerlo.
In the picture, you can see the boxes ready for pickup by those families whose names are supplied by the resource center.
Kiwanis members and relatives who were present included Zenie and Russ Gladieux, Mary Kinnaird, Russ Pokorny, Jan Van Etten, Pauline Williman, Anna Wolfe, and Ray and Anne Lauenstein.
