Birth

Mabel Cora Stewart was born on July 24, 1911, in Schenectady, N.Y. to Peter Stewart and Helen Condon.[1]

Occupation

She was a cashier for Grand Union Supermarket for over 20 years having worked in the stores in Delmar and last in Glenmont.[1]

Marriage & Children

On October 27, 1928, Mabel married Arthur J. Slingerland, son of William Rarick Slingerland (1882-1971) and Evangeline J. Fancher. They raised their four children in Westerlo:

Death

Mabel died on November 19, 1999, in Delmar at 88 years of age. She was buried on November 21, in Westerlo Rural Cemetery in Westerlo.[1]

WESTERLO, NY -- Mabel C. Slingerland, 88 years, of Westerlo, NY, passed away at the Good Samaritan Lutheran HCC in Delmar, NY on November 19, 1999. She was born in Schenectady, NY on July 24, 1911, daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Condon) Stewart. Mabel was a cashier for Grand Union for over 20 years having worked in the stores in Delmar and last in Glenmont. She was a member of the Westerlo Reformed Church and the Ladies Aid of the Westerlo Reformed Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Slingerland. Surviving are two daughters, Joan McDermott of Westerlo, NY and Norma D'Alfonsi of Metuchen, NJ; two sons, James Slingerland of Westerlo, NY and Ronald Slingerland of East Berne, NY; also 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Service will be Saturday 1 p.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery. Those who desire may contribute in her memory to the Westerlo Reformed Church or to the Ladies Aid of the Westerlo Reformed Church.
