Augustus was born in Rensselaerville on May 25,1842, a son of John Southard and Ann Gould.

He married at about 1866, Antoinette Griffin who was born in 1839. They moved to Westerlo and they had the following children:

Death

Augustus died in 1901 and was buried at the Rensselaerville Cemetery. Antoinette died in 1902 and she is buried beside him
