Birth

George A. Simons was born in Berne [1] on August 13, 1835[2] about 1845, son of Peter Simons and his first wife Catharine Fitzgerald (1817 - after June 1850).[3] The 1840 census shows Peter Simons in Albany. The 1850 census for the City of Albany, Ward 8 clearly shows George's mother's name as Catherine and his age as 5, so he may have been born in Albany, not Berne.[4] Peter Simons married next Margaret Wilson.[3]
