Peter was born on April 18, 1755 in Rhinebeck, Dutchess Co., NY. After the Revolutionary War, he moved from Rhinebeck to Claverack in Columbia County, and from there to Saratoga County, NY where he lived for forty years, removing at about 1830 to Berne, Albany County.

Marriage and Children

Several resources indicate that he was married and had one child named Peter.

While still residing in Rhinebeck, he enlisted in the spring of 1776 and served a year as Sergeant in Captain Steenberg’s Company, Colonel Dubois’ New York Regiment. He enlisted again in the spring of 1777 and served as a private in Dubois’ Regiment. He was at the taking of Fort Montgomery, was wounded by a musket ball and lost a toe but continued to serve until the close of the war.

Peter died on May 29, 1834 at Berne, but a burial location has not been learned.
