Birth

Andrew was born in Berne at about 1845, a son of Andrew Secor and Julia Ann Bronk.

Marriage & Children

Andrew Secor, Jr. married, according to online genealogies, Anna Geneva Harnes (9 Apr 1848 in Bedford, Erie Co., PA - 8 Sep 1928 in Coldwater, Branch Co., MI). Their daughter was:

Edna Williams (Birth 1883 - Death 1969 )

Military Service

Residence: Knox[1]
Place of Birth: Knox[1]
Names of Parents: Andrew (Secor)[1]
Occupation: Farmer[1]
Term of Enlistment: 3 years[1]
Bounty Received: $100.00[1]
Date of Enlistment: 28 Aug 1862
Enlistment Rank: Private[1]
State Served: New York
Regiment: 61st Infantry[2]
Company: Company I
Deserted on: 12 May 1863[2] or 30 Apr 1863[1]
Deserted at: place not specified
Additional Remarks: Enlisted at the age of 21.[2] " Deserted while on the march Apr 30th 1860."[1]

The muster roll abstract shown below confuses the issue about his desertion and no further information is available to explain the fact that he received a pension for his service. It appears that he was taken prisoner and refused exchange, but upon swearing that he would not fight against the Confederates, he was returned and possibly pardoned, if he actually did desert, after the war's end.

Sources Used: Ancestry.com, American Civil War Soldiers; Town and City Registers of Men Who Served in the Civil War; Annual Report of the Adjutant General of the State of New York.

Death

Andrew died on February 28, 1918 at Coldwater, MI and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery there.
