Birth

Mr. Northrup was born in East Berne, on October 11, 1923, [1] a son of Orlo and Emily Northrup. [2]

Marriage and Children

Harold married Marion Shultes and they had a daughter Patricia Northrup. [2]

Occupation

After Harold was discharged from the Army, he drove a truck for Callahan's in South Bethlehem and later had his own dump truck, still driving for Callahan's, delivering stone, blacktop, and the like. Mr. Northrup worked for Universal Auto Parts in Albany for 36 years, starting out as a shop worker and working up to become a shop foreman, then a counter man, and finally part owner of the business. Military Service

Harold served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a technician 4th grade, serving with Company C, 152nd Combat Engineers in central Europe. He earned the ETO Ribbon, three Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Theatre Ribbon. [2]

Death

Mr. Northrup died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at his home in Summerfield, FL after a long illness. [2]

Burial

Interment was in South Berne Cemetery, South Berne, New York.

Summerfield, Florida--Harold F. Northrup, 78, formerly of East Berne, died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at his home after a long illness. Mr. Northrup was born in East Berne, son of the late Orlo and Emily Northrup. He lived in East Berne until 1986, when he retired to Florida. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a technician 4th grade, serving with Company C, 152nd Combat Engineers in central Europe. He earned the ETO Ribbon, three Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Theatre Ribbon. He was a member of the AMVETS in Berne and served in both local and state capacities. He was a member of the Berne Fire Company for many years, the Kiwanis Club, and Orange Blossom Hills Home Association, until he got ill. His hobbies were golfing, bowling, and working in his yard and with his flowers. After he was discharged from the Army, he drove a truck for Callahan's in South Bethlehem and later had his own dump truck, still driving for Callahan's, delivering stone, blacktop, and the like. Mr. Northrup worked for Universal Auto Parts in Albany for 36 years, starting out as a shop worker and working up to become a shop foreman, then a counter man, and finally part owner of the business. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marion Shultes Northrup; his daughter, Patricia Sherouse, and her husband, Jack; two grandchildren, Didi Cason and Jon Becker; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; one step-granddaughter and spouse; one step-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. His son, Kenneth Northrup, and his brother George Northrup, are deceased. A service was held in Florida on October 15 and a graveside service was held October 24 at South Berne Cemetery, South Berne, New York. Arrangements are by the Fredendall Funeral Home.
