Mary Louise Snyder was born May 24, 1926, in Westerlo to Walter Leslie Snyder and Christina Messer.

Education

She attended Greenville Central School in nearby Greene County.

Occupation

Mary worked for the Greenville Central School until she retired.

Marriage & Children

On July 24, 1943, Mary married Huyler Daniel Tallman in Westerlo. He was a son of Fletcher D. Tallman and Alice W. Freleigh. They raised their children in Dormansville where he built their house. They had four children:

Following Huyler's death, Mary married again to Malcolm Robert Tompkins on April 14, 1961, in the Dormansville United Methodist Church, in Dormansville. They had one daughter:

Death

She died February 2, 2002, at Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, Berkshire Co., MA at 75 years of age. She was buried with Malcolm in Westerlo Central Cemetery.

WESTERLO -- Mary Tompkins, 75 years, of Westerlo, NY, passed away on February 2, 2002 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. Mary was born May 24, 1926 in Westerlo, NY, daughter of late Walter and Christina (Messer) Snyder. She was employed by the Greenville Central School prior to her retirement. Mary was a life member of the Westerlo Fire Co., Westerlo Fire Co. Ladies Aux., Westerlo Fire Police, the Dormansville U.M. Church, Dormansville U.M. Church Women's Group, Heldeberg Hill Toppers Campers and the Circle 8 Square Dancers. She was the wife of the late Malcolm Tompkins and Huyler Tallman. Surviving are her four daughters, Elizabeth and Christina Tallman of Westerlo, Margaret Tallman of Poestenkill and Mrs. William (MaryLou) Nutbrown of Lenox, MA; her grandsons, Wayne and Richard Oliver and William Nutbrown; sisters, Anne Kuhar and Kate Latham; and brothers, George and Robert Snyder. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Alice Tallman Oliver, four brothers, John, Henry, Frederick and Richard Snyder and a sister, Viola Hallenbeck. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Westerlo Fire Co. will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Interment will follow the funeral service on Wednesday in the Westerlo Central Cemetery, Westerlo. Those who wish may contribute in Mary's memory to the Westerlo Rescue Squad or the Dormansville U.M. Church.
