HELEN HALUSKA CROOKS

EAST BERNE — Helen Haluska Crooks, 78, died Feb. 28 in Clinton (Oneida Co.) after a long illness.

She was born March 6, 1915, in New Jersey, the daughter of the late John and Mary Stemple Haluska, and moved to East Berne when she was seven. On Dec. 16, 1937 she married Orville Z. Crooks. Since 1955, the couple have lived in Utica, Florida and, for the past 10 years, in Clinton. She was a member of the Utica Curling Club.

Survivors include her husband, Orville Z. Crooks; a daughter, Mary Jane Toussaint; four brothers — Joseph Haluska of Albany, John Haluska of Milton (Ulster Co.), Charles Haluska of East Berne and Frank Haluska of Albany; three sisters ---Martha Garry of Knox, Dorothy Robinson of Clarksyille and Emily Chase of East Berne; three grandchildren-Michael Toussaint of Mesa, Ariz., Janine Jaquays and Luarie Toussaint Swentdn, both of Waterville; and six great-grandchildren — Brandon and Ryan Toussaint, Jarrod, Monicia and Taylor Jaquays and John Toussaint.

A sister, Elise Megas, late of Albany, pre-deceased her.

Funeral service was this afternoon from the Kloster-Northrop Funeral Home in Waterville, with burial in St, Bernard's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, or the Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Crooks - Toussaint

Miss Mary Jane Crooks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Z. Crooks, 104 Westmoreland St., Whitesboro, (former East Berne rsidents), was united in marriage to Alen John Toussant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Toussaint, Whiteboro, Sept. 26, (1958) in chapel 13, Fort Dix, N. J. The Rev. Clement P. J. Krug performed the double ring ceremony.

A dinner party was held for the immedicate families at Hart's Hill Inn on Sept. 27. Amoung those fraom this area who attended the reception were the bride's grandfather, John G. Haluska, Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Haluska, and son, Stanley, East Berne, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Haluska of Albany.

THe bride attended [[h:Berne-Knox-Westerlo|Berne-Knox Central school, was graduated from Whiteboro Central High, and attended Buffalo State Teachers College.

Pvt. Toussaint is stationed at Fort Dix, N. J.
