Mrs. Orville Crookes, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor. She wore at coral faille gown, matching hat;, and carried rose shaded mums. Miss Mary Jane Crookes, Miss Marcia Haluska, nieces of the bride and Miss Mildred Chase, sister of the groom were bridesmaids. All wore matching costumes of blue net, bonnets to match and white mitts. They carried yellow and orchid mums. The groom was attended by his brother, Edward Chase, Jr.  Norman Countryman, brother-in-law of the groom; Charles Haluska, brother of the bride and Orville Crookes brother-in-law of the bride, were ushers.
 
 
A buffett luncheon, followed by dancing, was served at Rest Seekers Inn, East, Berne, with approximately 80 guests present. After the reception the newlyweds left on a wedding trip. Upon their return they plan to live in Watertown.

Charles V. Haluska was born in Newark, N. J. son of the late John G. and Mary Stempel Haluska. His brothers and sisters were:

Mr. Haluska is a retired building contractor. Charles Haluska moved to E. Berne when he was two years old. He worked on a dairy farm with his father until starting his own business as a self-employed carpenter and contractor, building many homes in the Capital District area. He was a 60-year member of the E. Berne Vol. Fire Co. and served as past chief and fire commissioner. He was a tax collector in the Town of Berne for eight years and served on the town board as councilman.

Marriage & Children

Charlie Haluska and Lois Leggett were married on March 27, 1943 at St. James Church in Delmar, and had their reception at Jack's Oyster House in Albany. Their children are:

  • Rev. Stanley Haluska, and his wife, Pat, who live in Birmingham, Alabama
  • Ann Resnick, and her husband, Mark, who live in East Berne.

Death

Charles V. Haluska, 84, died peacefully with his family at his side Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at Albany Medical Center Hospital following a long illness.

Charles V. Haluska

EAST BERNE — Charles V, Haluska, 84, died peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, Jan. 20,2004, at Albany Medical Center Hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Newark, N.J., the son of the late John and Mary Stempel Haluska. He moved to East Berne when he was two years old.

He worked on a dairy farm with his father until starting his own business as a self-employed carpenter and contractor, building many homes in the Capital District area. He was a 60-year member of the East Berne Volunteer Fire Company and served as past chief and fire commissioner. He was a tax collector in the town of Berne for eight years and served on the town board as councilman.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois Leggett Haluska. He is also survived by a son, Stanley Haluska, and his wife, Pat, of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Ann Resnick, and her husband, Mark, of East Berne; a grandson, Christopher Haluska and his wife, Anne, of Siler City, N.C.; a brother, Frank Haluska, of Loudonville; three sisters, Martha Garry of Knox, Dorothy Robinson of Delmar, and Emily Chase of East Berne; and many nieces nephews, and cousins. Two brothers, Joseph and John Haluska, and two sisters, Elsie Megas and Helen Crooks, died before him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Bernadette's Church on Helderberg Trail in Berne. Relatives and friends may call at the church prior to the mass from 8 to 10 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are by Fredendall Funeral Home of Altamont.

Memorial contributions may be made to the East Berne Fire Company, Box 32, East Berne, NY 12059, to the Helderberg Ambulance Squad, Box 54, East Berne, NY 12059, or to the National Kidney Foundation, 23 Computer Drive East, Albany, NY 12205.

Haluskas celebrate 60th anniversary

EAST BERNE — Mr. and Mrs. Charles Haluska of East Berne will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on March 27, 2003. Charlie and Lois Haluska were married on March 27,1943 at St. James Church in Delmar, and had their reception at Jack's Oyster House in Albany.

Best man was Frank Haluska and maid of honor was Dorothy Robinson.

Mr. Haluska is a retired building contractor and Mrs. Haluska is a homemaker. They have two children — a son, Rev. Stanley Haluska, and his wife, Pat, who live in Birmingham, Alabama, and a daughter, Ann Resnick, and her husband, Mark, who live in East Berne. They also have a grandson, Chris Haluska, and his wife, Ann, who live in Ashville, N.C.

Haluska, Walsh to marry

EAST BERNE — Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. Haluska announce the engagement of their son, Stanley, to Patricia Elizabeth Walsh of New York City.

Miss Walsh is the daughter of Michael and Rosemary Walsh of Madison, Wise, and a graduate of North Western University of Evanston, 111. She is creative director of Vogue Wright Studios of New York City.

Mr. Haluska is a graduate of Niagara University and is manager of an apartment complex in Ashville, N.C. A November wedding is planned in Ashville.
