He worked for Webster Motors, in Schenectady, as a mechanic, and for the New York Telephone Company, retiring in 1996.

KNOX — Charles E. Dexter was a member of the Knox Volunteer Fire Company and lived in the Hill towns for many years. He died on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at his daughter's home in Knox. He was 73.

Mr. Dexter was born in Albany to the late Minnie and Luther Dexter. He lived in Knox for many years before moving to Florida in 1991. He worked for Webster Motors, in Schenectady, as a mechanic, and for the New York Telephone Company, retiring in 1996.

Mr. Dexter is survived by his wife, Ruth Cater Dexter, three children, Dennis C. Dexter, and his wife, Rebecca, of Schenectady, Marie Durham, and her husband, Leonard, of Altamont, and Glen P. Dexter, and his wife, Linda, of Ballston Lake; two brothers, Merlin Dexter, of Colonie, and Richard Dexter, of Knox; and three sisters, Nancy Dexter, of Knox, . Mildred Hoffman, of Guilderland, and Barbara Dexter, of Troy.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Patrick Dexter, Lance Durham, Scott Courtwright, and Brittany and Victoria Dexter; and many nieces and nephews. His sisters, Cora Spadaro and Shirley Dexter, and his brother, Robert Dexter, died before him.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, a t 6 p.m., at the Fredendall Funeral Home, at 199 Main St., in Altamont. Calling hours will be at the funeral home from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday. Interment will be in the Knox Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211, or to the Altamont Rescue Squad, Post Office Box 56, Altamont,'NY 12009.
