Silas was a soldier and captain in the Revolutionary War and has a long record of service in the "Revolutionary War Rolls of Connecticut". He was in the first and last battles, fighting with musket at Bunker Hill, and commanding a Company at Yorktown. About 1793 Silas moved to Schoharie in New York State. During his last years he lived with his eldest daughter Sarah, Mrs. Aaron Torrey, in Albany (NY) where he died Aug. 27. 1824.

Silas Blodgett was born 22 JAN 1730/31 in Stafford, Tolland, CT the son of Josiah Blodgett (27 Mar 1696 in Woburn, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA - 01 May 1775 in Stafford, Tolland, Connecticut, USA) and Elizabeth Sawyer (Sayer) (07 Nov 1698 in Woburn, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA - 22 Jul 1764 in Stafford, Tolland, Connecticut, USA)[1]

Silas Blodgett of Stafford, Conn. Commissioned May 1775 Discharged December 1775. Re-entered service 1776 in Captain Elijah Robinson's Company, in the second Regiment. Colonel Joseph Spencer, which served at the siege of Boston Commissioned 1st Lieutenant January 1777. In the second regiment Connecticut Colonel Joseph Charles Webb. which went into camp at Peekskill early in 1977 served along Hudson and on December 8 engaged in action at White March. Lieutenant, in the act of Connecticut Pensioners, Sergeant in Capt. Paul Blodgett's Company from the town of Stafford, in the list of men who marched from the Connecticut town for the relief Boston in the Lexington Claim.
