Ball, Madison
Birth
Madison M.[1] Ball was born on July 12, 1841 to John W. Ball (B. Mar 20, 1801, D. June 5, 1873) and Maria Sternburg (B. Sept 3, 1807, D. Nov 22, 1871).[2] He was the middle child of seven and the only boy.[2]
Marriage & Children
In about 1872, he married Hester Secor Shafer, who was born in October of 1849 to Francis F. Shafer and Rebecca Van Zandt Secor.[2]
They had the following children:
- Maude Ball (B. 1873)[2]married Edwin Shultes, Jr., died in November of 1951 at Albany, NY [3]
- Blanche Ball (B. 1875,[2] died after 1951[3]
- Howard Ball (B. 1877, D. before Nov 1933)[2]
- Frances J. Ball (B. 1878) known as Frank[2], died after 1951[3]
- Ruth R. Ball (B. 1879, D. after June 1943)[2][3]
Occupation
He was a school teacher and taught in the village school for twenty-seven terms. He was also an active member of the Charles McCulloch post #645, G.A.R.[3]

Death
Madison Ball died on September 9, 1922 at Berne, NY and his wife Hester died on November 30, 1933 and they were both buried at the Beaverdam Cemetery in Berne.[2]

BALL—Entered into rest at Berne, N.Y. Nov. 30, 1933, in her 85th year, Hester Secor Shafer, widow of the late Madison Ball. Funeral services private on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at her late residence. Friends may call Saturday evening. Interment in Beaverdam Cemetery.
