Luther Niles was born on October 8, 1830 at Rensselaerville. He was the son of Samuel Niles and Ruth Tompkins.[1]

He was a farmer and now owns the 200 acre farm that was once his father’s. He was a Democrat in politics and has been assessor nine years. He was a member of Cascade Lodge, No. 42, F. & A. M.[1]
