Huyler Decker 1897-1960



Birth

Huyler was born May 12, 1897, [1][2]in New York[3] to Lucius M. Decker and Adelaide Fox. His exact birth location is unknown, however he was likely born in the hilltowns in the Westerlo area where his parents were living at the time. He was known by the nickname "Pappy".[4]

Occupation

He was a farm laborer and a taxi chauffer for a time.[3] He was also a member of the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company.[4]

Marriage & Children

In 1918, Huyler married Daisy Mae Freleigh, as daughter of William Freleigh and Sarah Anna Carr. They had one child that died as an infant.[5]

Death

Huyler died October 3, 1960, in Albany Hospital in Albany at 63 years of age. He is buried in Westerlo Rural Cemetery in Westerlo.[4][2][6][1]

Obituary

DECKER - At Albany Hospital, Oct. 30, 1960, Huyler (Pappy) Decker of Westerlo, N.Y. husband of Daisy M. Freleigh, brother of Mrs. Nora H. Tuttle of Pittsfield, MA, and the late Foster Decker, Westerlo. Funeral service Wedenesday 2 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home Tuesday evening 7 to 9 o'clock. Interment Westerlo Rural Cemetery.

DECKER - Officer and members of the Town of Westerlo Volunteer Fire Co., will meet at the Cunningham Funeral Home Tuesday evening 8 o'clock to conduct the service for their late member, Huyler Decker.
