Birth
William H. Van Deusen was born ca. 1840 to Robert C. Van Deusen (B. Nov 5, 1798, D. May 17, 1853) and Catherine Bovie (B. May 2, 1802, D. after 1860).[1] He had an older brother Daniel Van Deusen, who also served in the Civil War.
Occupation
He was a farm laborer on his father's farm in the 1855 and 1860 census.[1][2][3]

Life
In 1850, William at the age of 10, was living in Berne with his parents and siblings.[7] In 1860 he was working as a farm laborer in Berne and living with his widowed mother and his siblings.[3] William has not been found in the 1870 Census.
