Birth
Holmes K. Nelson was born in about 1837 in Berne, Albany Co, NY to Carpenter Nelson (B. June 9, 1799, D. Dec 17, 1876) and Sally Ann Northrup (B. May 13, 1808, D. June 23, 1872).[1] He was a middle child of eleven.[1] His middle initial has been recorded both as R. and K.[2]
Marriage & Children
On July 20, 1865 Holmes married Mary Leddy at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Berne.[1]
Holmes and Mary had the following children:

Life
Holmes Nelson was born and married in Berne, Albany Co, NY, but as an adult he moved around New York State. In 1870, he was living in Milo, Yates Co, NY with his young family and was working as a farm laborer. They were living with the family of Oscar Nelson (B. abt 1843), who was also a farm laborer.[3] By 1880, living in Watervliet, Albany Co, NY near what is today the Albany Airport, Holmes was a farmer.[4] By 1890, he was living in Amsterdam, Montgomery Co, NY.[9]
Organizations
Holmes was a member of the E. S. Young Post No. 33 of the G. A. R. in Amsterdam, NY.[10]
Death
Holmes died on April 10, 1900 in Amsterdam, Montgomery Co, NY.[8] He was buried at Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, Montgomery County, NY.[8] His son Guy and his family were buried at this cemetery as well.[6]
