WESTERLO — Robert D. Hannay, of Westerlo, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at his home following a brief illness. He was 64. Born in Westerlo on April 10,1941, the son of Doris E. (Velie) Hannay and the late Dwight C. Hannay, he spent most of his life in Westerlo.
Mr. Hannay was married on June 29, 1963, to Marilyn J. (Stark) Hannay.
He spent six years serving in the United States Army. National Guard. He was a member of the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Department, the president of the Westerlo Rural Cemetery Board, a member of the Helderberg Medical Association Board, as well as a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.- A 1963 graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University, Mr. Hannay worked as vice president of marketing at Hannay Reels from 1963 to 1996.
He served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent, and leader of youth activities for many years at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn J. Hannay; his children Scott R. Hannay and his wife, Beverly, of Westerlo, Sherri L. (Hannay) Gerhardt and her husband, Stephen, of Grand Ledge, Mich., Shaun R. Hannay and his wife, Diane, of Westerlo, and Michael D. Hannay and his wife, Gayle, also of Westerlo.
He is survived by eight grandchildren; one grandson died before him. Also surviving are his sister, Carol (Hannay) Guilzon, and her husband, David, of Westerlo, along with several nieces and nephews. Interment will take place at the Westerlo Rural Cemetery. A memorial service will take place Friday, July 15, at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo. Arrangements are with Cunningham Funeral Home of Greenville.
