Loyal and generous in her friendships, faithful and devoted in her church relations, helpful in general community interests, the place she filled is sadly empty."

Flavia Sholtes

Birth

Flavia Sholtes was born on Feb. 25, 1868 at the Rock Road, Knox, NY Sholtes farm. She was one of nine children of Jacob Sholtes and Angelica Schell

Education

She attended the one room schoolhouse on Rock Rd. She was an artist, and attended art school in New York City. Several of her oil paintings of landscapes and fruit are still in the family in 2010. She was the favorite aunt of Alta Sholtes Ball, and Flavia arranged for Alta to attend finishing school in NYC. Fla also sent teenage Alta dresses from the City.

Marriage & Children

Flavia Sholtes married Frank Zeh who was a pharmacist who lived and worked in Corinth N.Y. For fifteen years after the death of Frank Zeh at age 48, Fla returned to Berne where she was active in the Berne Reformed Church. They had no children.

Death

Flavia Sholtes Zeh died on August 22, 1935 and was buried in the Beaverdam Cemetery in the Town of Berne on August 25, 1935. Her obit states that "Mrs. Zeh possessed in high degree the dignity characteristic of her honored ancestory, as well as the beauty and charm of a most attractive personalty. Her nimble wit and happy interest made her presence ever welcome in any social circle. Loyal and generous in her friendships, faithful and devoted in her church relations, helpful in general community interests, the place she filled is sadly empty."
