Birth

Benjamin Eli Mackey was born on January 20, 1782 in New Paltz, Ulster Co., NY. He is believed to have been a son of Alexander Mackey and Thankful Tuthill. His known siblings were:

• Alexander Mackey born January 20, 1764, married Elizabeth Woolsey
• Polly Mackey born on February 16, 1766, married Eliphaz Kilbourn

On October 15, 1800 he married Abigail Kelsey who was born on February 24, 1781, a daughter of Jonas Kelsey and Sarah Woolsey. Their children:

• Alanson Mackey born March 4, 1802, married Sarah Jones on March 15, 1827, married Susanna Tanner on April 22, 1834
• Sarah Mackey born December 6, 1803, married Isaac Laraway on July 16, 1822
• Prudence Mackey born July 17, 1805, married Horace Deveraux on March 6, 1828
• Catherine Mackey born on October 20, 1807, married Henry Mott on October 27, 1833
• Eli Mackey born August 7, 1809, married Rosaline Frayer on February 24, 1836
• Abigail Mackey born January 10, 1812, married Earl Mosher on February 3, 1830
• Alexander Tuthill Mackey born January 5, 1815 married Deborah Palmer on February 6, 1838
• James Clinton Mackey born May 10, 1817, married Elizabeth Ann Gifford
• Mary Ann Mackey born February 17, 1825

Military

Benjamin served as a Colonel in the War of 1812.

Death

Benjamin died on October 23, 1845 in Rensselaerville, his burial was at the Medusa Cemetery. Abigail died on December 13, 1857 and was buried beside her husband.

Edwin M. Mott, Farmington, was born in Gorham, Ontario county June 5, 1846. He was educated in the public schools and Oneida Seminary and is a farmer. March 8, 1875, he married Mary A., only living daughter of David W. and Ann Sheldon of this town. They had one daughter, Emma, who died at the age of four years. Mr. Mott's father, Henry, was born in Washington, Dutchess county, April 20, 1791, and married Catherine Mackey, who was born in Rensselaerville, Albany county, in 1807. They had eight children, five survive; Anson, Alvira, Lucius, Edwin M., and Dilwin, three died young. His father died October 26, 1883, and his mother, September 15, 1881. His mother's father, Benjamin E. Mackey, was a colonel in the War of 1812. Mrs. Mott's father, David W. Sheldon, was born in this town January 21, 1814. February 12, 1840, he married Ann Gue, and they had four children: Daniel, Hannah C., Emily H., and Mary A. The other three are deceased. Her father died September 17, 1882, and her mother resides with them. In politics, Mr. Mott is a Democrat.
