Jacob Van Benscoten (Jacob Vanbunschoten) was born in Knox, Albany County, NY on April 4, 1842. His surname was also spelled as Van Benschoten. He was the son of John and Maria Townsend Van Benscoten.

On October 5, 1871 in Knox, he married Almira E. Allen (B. Sept 25, 1846), daughter of Sylvester Allen and sister of William Allen.

Lloyd Van Benscoten of New York city spent a few days at the home of his mother, Mrs. Almira Van Benscoten, recently. Mr. Van Benscoten has a studio at 18 West 38th street, where he does commercial art work for some of the large publications of the metropolis.

VAN BENSCOTEN - At 514 Westinghouse Place, Schenectady, Thursday, May 15, 1930, Almira Allen, wife of the late Jacob Van Benscoten. Funeral sevices will be held at the Fredendall's undertaking parlors, Altamont, Sunday afternoon at 2:30. D. S. T. Friends may call Saturday evening from 7 to 9.

Alatmont Enterprise - May 16, 1930

Mrs. Almira Allen, wife of the late Jacob Van Benscoten, of Altamont. died in Schenectady Thursday May 15th, aged 82 years. The funeral service will he held at Fredendall funeral parlors Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be at Knox cemetery. Mrs. Van Benscoten is survived by two sons, Allen of Watertown and Lloyd of Altamont.
