Birth
Jacob F. Bradt was born in Schoharie Co., NY in October of 1838 or October of 1837[1], a son of Andrew Bradt and Betsey McCulloch
Marriage & Children
The exact date of his marriage or the maiden name of his wife is unknown but at about 1870 Jacob married Abbie H. Their surviving children were:
- Nellie M. Bradt born in January of 1873
- Frederick Bradt born in May of 1879
Life and Occupation
Jacob remained in the household with his father in Berne until he was old enough to strike out on his own. He worked as a farm laborer and probably assisted in the support of the rest of his family.
He enlisted in the same Regiment and Company as his brother, John, and was wounded at the same place at the same time as he was. Jacob’s wound to his leg disabled him from further service and he was discharged, John remained on.
John engaged in several occupations other than farming after his marriage. In 1875 he was a blacksmith, he worked in an Axe factory in the 1880’s, but by 1900 he gave no occupation.
