Bess Borthwick, wife of William Borthwick operated a tea room from 1921-1928 in the hamlet of Rensselaerville where she did all her own baking and served special toast. At one time she also served dinners and catered parties. Open every day from 1:30 or 2 p.m. until 5:30 or 6 p.m. her clientele would arrive in chauffered limosines from Albany.[1].
