Understanding renewable energy: Fourth-graders at Berne-Knox-Westerlo listen to John Elberfeld on June 20 as he demonstrates how electrical energy works. Russ and Amy Pokorny, also, like Elberfeld, members of Helderberg Community Energy, described how they use a windmill and solar panels at their Knox home to produce the energy they consume.
Hands-on learning: Brittany Yarusso, right, and Luke Valachovic, next to her — both fourth-graders at Berne-Knox-Westerlo — try out different pieces of equipment that demonstrate how energy can be made. The lessons were provided by members of Helderberg Community Energy.
