Camp Lovejoy, Altamont, To Dedicate Its New Pool

The Schenectady Boys' Club will dedicate its new swimming pool and bath house at Camp Lovejoy, above Altamont, at 7 p. m. Wednesday, July 15, according to Charles J. Assini, club president.

Interested residents of Altamont are invited to the dedication, stated Mr. Assini. Several boys living in Altamont are now attending the day camp program which began on June 22 and ends on Aug. 14.

The new facilities at the camp represent an investment of $55,000 which was made possible by the capital funds campaign conducted by the club in 1962. At that time, $375,000 was contributed to the club.

The camp building project was the third of three major projects of the club's building program. The first two projects were to provide gymnasiums, locker rooms, kitchen, library, craft and club rooms for the Schenectady Boys' Club and its branch club in Rotterdam. The dedication will give local residents an opportunity to visit the camp and become better acquainted with its program and its facilities.

This is the eighth season of the day camp program at Camp Lovejoy. The camp program will serve more than 450 boys during the eight-week season. The average daily attendance has been a little more than 200.

This program is carried on by the five full-time staff members of the Schenectady and Rotterdam Boys' Club, plus 20 counselors hired for the summer.
