Helderberg Kiwanis installs new officers at Octagon
In the Halloween spirit, Kiwanis President Martin Herzog receives his presidential pin from his wife, Marie.
KNOX — The Helderberg Kiwanis had a busy and fun-filled night on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Amy and Russ Pokorny's octagon barn in Knox.
The first event of the evening was the swearing in of new officers by Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor Dave Vail. The 2011-12 officers are President Martin Herzog, President-Elect Ray Lauenstein, Secretary Zenith Gladieux, Treasurer Amy Pokorny, and Immediate Past President Debra Vadalabene. Board members for the coming year are Homer Warner, Daniel Driscoll, and Rudy Stempel. Following the installation of officers, Vail discussed the objectives of Kiwanis during the coming year and lauded the Helderberg Club for its many efforts.
During the past year, the club contributed over $5,000 for such things as Schoharie flood relief, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo marching band, BKW Little League, a historic marker for the restored schoolhouse, Thanksgiving baskets, and Christmas gifts for needy families through the Hilltown Community Resource Center. These are just a few of the many projects the club supports. During the coming Kiwanis year, meetings will be at the Highlands Tavern and Restaurant on the Berne-Altamont Road at 6 p.m. every Wednesday evening. The public is welcome to listen to speakers discussing topics of interest to the community.
