Washington County Regiment; Morgan Rifles; Northern Sharpshooters; New York Riflemen

Mustered in: October 1861 to January 1862. Mustered out: June 29, 1865. During its service the regiment lost by death, killed in action, 6 officers, 78 enlisted men; of wounds received in action, 1 officer, 43 enlisted men; of disease and other causes, 2 officers, 141 enlisted men; total, 9 officers, 262 enlisted men; aggregate, 271; of whom 1 officer. 22 enlisted men, died in the hands of the enemy.

  • Azor T. Hayes of Berne was a 21 year old Private of Company E when he was killed in action on May 6, 1864 at the Wilderness, VA.

  • William Harrison Canull of Berne was a 21 year old Private of Company G when he died of typhoid fever at Baltimore, MD on August 11, 1862.
