During its service the regiment lost by death, killed in action, 3 officers, 29 enlisted died of wounds received in action, 19 enlisted men; died of disease and other 2 officers, 154 enlisted men; total, 5 officers and 202 enlisted men; aggregate, 207; 38 enlisted men died in the hands of the enemy.

Captured in action

  • Albert C. Hale of Westerlo was a 21 year old on his second enlistment and a Private in the 3rd Cavalry when he was reported missing in action on October 7, 1864 at Harrison’s Farm, VA. He was taken prisoner and held at Salisbury, NC and released on April 27, 1865. He mustered out on June 7, 1865 at Baltimore, MD.
