11th Light Artillery
This battery was recruited under the auspices of the Young Men’s Christian Association at Albany in October of 1861 and left the state on January 17, 1862.
The battery was honorably discharged and mustered out June 13, 1865, at Albany, having during its service lost by death, killed in action, 6 enlisted men; of wounds received in action, 2 enlisted men; of disease and other causes, 13 enlisted men; total, 21; of whom I died in the hands of the enemy.
Among those who died of disease was:
- John Quincy Adams Crounse a native of Schoharie County lived at Knox. He was a 30 year old Private when he died of disease at Alexandria, VA. He was a graduate of Union College and a teacher in Knox when he enlisted. His remains were taken to Sharon, Schoharie Co., NY, the place where his parents lived.
- Andrew W. Kellogg was a 45 year old Private from Knox who after nearly 2 years in service died of smallpox at Baltimore, MD on June 1, 1863. He left a widow and three children.
Among those who were disabled:
- William Mitchell was a 23 year old Private from Knox who served for 2 years before being discharged for his disability on May 26, 1863 at Philadelphia, PA.
