In the 1865 census, there was a place to check if the resident was a past or current soldier. This is a list of the names checked in the census of Knox, Albany County, NY. The hand-written record was faint and hard to read. Not every soldier with detailed information is marked as "In the Army" and not every checked has detailed information. Census taken in June of 1865. Some soldiers listed had already died in prison. Perhaps their families had not been notified.
