West, Zadock B.
Birth
Zadok B. West was born in June 1839 in Fulton, Schoharie County, NY.[1] His given name, which is from the Hebrew bible, was also recorded as Zadock and Zaddock, and he was called Zade.[2] He was the son of Peter W. West (B. Mar 13, 1802, D. Aug 23, 1877) and Elizabeth Felter (B. bet Aug 14, 1805-1807, D. Oct 30, 1903).[1]
Marriage & Children
After March 22, 1887, Zadok married Sarah Augusta Dietz, who was born July 8, 1836.[1] She was the daughter of Joseph P. Dietz and Cornelia Bogardus, and was the widow of John Henry Fancher (B. Feb 1, 1839, D. Dec 12, 1871).[1] She came into the marriage with two children:
- William Fancher (B. abt 1861, D. bef 1900)[1]
- Cora M. Fancher (B. abt Mar 1865, D. after 1925)[1]
Zade picked a wonderful woman as Sarah was remembered as kind, loving and a "ray of sunshine".[3]
Zadok and Sarah did not have any children of their own.[1]
Occupation
Early in his life Zadok was a miller with his brother.[4] Later he became a farmer and owned his own farm.[5]

| Additional Remarks: Enlisted at the age of 23 on September 20, 1862. The 1890 Census says that he was discharged on Jan 20, 1863 after only 4 months with a Surgeon's certificate.[7] Zade was a surveyor for the Union Army and mpped bridges, roads and areas of attack.[8] He was wounded in the left leg.[8] |

Life
After being born in Fulton, Schoharie Co, NY, by 1880 Zadok had moved to Berne, Albany Co where he was working as a miller and living with his brother Abram A. West, who was also a miller, and his wife Minnie.[4] In 1890 Zadok was living in South Berne.[7]
Zadok was active in the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), which was an organization of Civil War veterans. In 1890, he was elected an officer of Post 645 of Berne as the Serg't Major and he began his term in early 1891.[9][10]
Zadok was a farmer who farmed his own property in Berne.
Zadok's wife Sarah Augusta died first in February of 1906.[1][3] After her death, Zadok lived with his step daughter Cora M. Fancher, who had married Emmet J. Carl a farmer.[11]
In about 1915, Zade was spending his winters in Albany.[12]
Religion
In 1911, Zade was on the advisory committee for the People's Church of South Berne.[13]
Death
Zadok died in 1929 and was buried in Albany Rural Cemetery in Lot 100 Section 100A.[2] His death date has also been recorded as 1920.[14]
