Later he con- ducted a retail meat market and was for some years engaged in the lime and cement trade. After the war he was for eight years engaged in the wool trade, and for the same length of time served as chief of police. In 1885 he entered his present busi- ness, wholesale and retail dealer in lime, cement and sewer pipe.
