Birth

Abner was born on December 30, 1781 at Rhinebeck, Dutchess Co., NY a son of Solomon Van Benscoten and Margaret Van Auken. [1]

Occupation

Abner was a farmer.

Marriage & Children

He married at about 1807 in Knox, Gertrude Ward who was born at about 1783[1]. They had the following known children:

  • Solomon Van Benscoten b. May 30, 1808[1]
  • Jermina Wyntie Van Benscoten b. February 15, 1810 married William Vanderpool. [1] Not named in her father’s will
  • Eleanor (Nellie) Ann Van Benscoten b. February 9, 1812 married Peter Palmatier[1]. Not mentioned in her father’s will
  • Margaret Van Benscoten b. March 14, 1814 married Richard Southwick[1]
  • John Van Benscoten b. March 20, 1815 married Anna Maria Townsend[1] His son, Jacob Van Benscoten was a Civil War soldier.
  • Teunis Van Benscoten b. November 23, 1817 married Hannah Rockwell[1]
