Birth

Levi was born in Preston, New London Co., CT on June 5, 1754, a son of Jedidiah and Jerusha Tracy. He had a brother named Obediah, but no other family information has been uncovered. He moved from Preston, CT in 1780 to Marlborough, VT and from there moved to Rensselaerville. In December of 1831 he moved to Canandaigua, NY where he apparently resided until his death.

Military

He enlisted at Preston Connecticut early in May of 1775 and served as a private in Colonel Hinman’s Connecticut Regiment serving under Captain Edward Mott. He marched to Ticonderoga. On his return from there he became sick and was unable to reach home until December of 1775. He enlisted again in February of 1776 and served as first Corporal in Capt. Mott’s company in Colonel Erastus Wolcott’s Connecticut regiment and assisted in building Fort Griswold. He was then appointed 3rd Sergeant on September 19, 1776 then served in Captain Coit’s Company and at that time was in the battle of White Plains. He served 9 months. In 1777 he was stationed at Fort Griswold in col. Ledyard’s Regiment. He again enlisted and served as a Sergeant in Captain Carew’s company in Colonel Worthington’s Connecticut Regiment and was in Sullivan’s Rhode Island Expedition.
