Chauncey A. Steiner was born in Middleburg[1], Schoharie Co[2], NY or Berne[3], Albany County, NY in about 1839 to Cornelius Steiner[1][4][2] and his wife Maria E. Wilday[2]. His surname has also been spelled Stiner.[1]

Death
Chauncey died of disease as a POW Company M, 7th Heavy Artillery Regiment New York on 13 Aug 1864 at Andersonville, GA. Robert Keating in the book "Carnival of Blood" records that he died of catarrh.[1] He was buried in grave number 5534 at Andersonville.[1] After his death on June 19, 1871, his father Cornelius Steiner filed for his Civil War pension.[4]
