The muster roll abstract shown below confuses the issue about his desertion and no further information is available to explain the fact that he received a pension for his service. It appears that he was taken prisoner and refused exchange, but upon swearing that he would not fight against the Confederates, he was returned and possibly pardoned, if he actually did desert, after the war's end.

Death

Andrew died on February 28, 1918 at Coldwater, MI and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery there.
