Birth

Lawrence was born in Schoharie County on March 28, 1767, a son of Lawrence and Maria Snyder Schoolcraft. [1]

Military

From April of 1778 to November of 1778 Lawrence served in Peter Vrooman's regiment commanded by Jacob Snyder and served under Sargeant William Mann along with his brother, Peter Schoolcraft. In 1779 he served in a regiment commanded by Peter Snyder under which Jacob Snyder was his Ensign, and Tunis Swart was their Corporal. Throughout the year of 1779, he did some substitution for his brother, John and his brothers, Jacob and Peter served with him in the same company. By 1780 this soldier was serving with Captain Sturbracks company and in the Peter Vrooman Regiment. [2]

Marriage and Children

He married on August 15, 1790 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schoharie, Harriet Reinhart who was born on Sept 27, 1768 in Ulster Co., NY, a daughter of George Frederick Reinhart and Catherine Frolich. [1] They had the following children:

  • Margaret Schoolcraft
  • George Frederick Schoolcraft
  • William Schoolcraft
  • Christina Schoolcraft

Death

Margaret died before 1850, but Lawrence was still living and was in Knox in the household of his daughter, Margaret Sand, and her family in 1855. No exact date of death has been discovered, but it is presumed that Lawrence went to Knox after the death of his wife.
