Alec F. Saddlemire was born in Schenectady, NY on July 20, 1957, the son of Austin Saddlemire and Frieda Schultz of Knox. His siblings were:

Alec Saddlemire worked for New York State for 28 years, but he lived to help others: he was a long-time member of both the Knox Volunteer Fire Department and the Helderberg Ambulance Squad. Alec was also a former assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 79, and was still actively involved in scouting.

KNOX — Alec F. Saddlemire died in his sleep at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014.

“He was only 56 and will be missed by all who knew him,” his family wrote in a tribute. He was the son of the late Austin and Frieda (née Schultz) Saddlemire of Knox.

“Alec worked for New York State for 28 years, but he lived to help others: He was a long-time member of both the Knox Volunteer Fire Department and the Helderberg Ambulance Squad,” his family wrote. “He was also a former assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 79, and was actively involved in scouting.”

Mr. Saddlemire is survived by his wife, Eileen, his son, Christopher Weaver, and his wife, Rea, his daughter, Jenn Weaver, and her husband, Paolo; his grandchildren, Dante Mari, Ella Weaver, and Jack Weaver; his brothers, Austin and his wife, Laura, Andy and his wife, Georgene, Alan and his wife, Jeanette, and Alden and his wife, Kathe, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

His son, Eric Weaver, died before him.

Calling hours will be on Friday, Feb. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, in Altamont. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10:30 a.m. Mourners may go online to fredendallfuneralhome.com.
