Birth
Herbert was born in Knox[1] on March 3, 1912.[2] He was the son of Frank and Edith Quay. His brothers were:

Marriage and Children
Mr. Quay married Virginia Nobles (April 30, 1917 - October 21, 2004) on March 24, 1946 and they had four daughters--Winona, Sandra, Judith and Cynthia Quay; and a son, Roger E. Quay.
Occupation
Mr. Quay worked for the General Electric Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1974 as a group leader in a powerhouse. Many years ago, he worked for the Albany County Highway Department. He was a town councilman for 20 years, and a member of the Knox Historical Society. He was a charter member and the first president of the Knox Volunteer Fire Department.[1]
Military Service
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany and Belgium.
Death
Mr. Quay died Tuesday, April 12, 1994, in St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, New York, after a long illness.[1]

HERBERT QUAY
KNOX — Herbert Quay, 82, of Knox Cave Road died Tuesday at St. Peter's Hospital following a long illness.
Born March 3, 1912 in Knox, the son of the late Frank and Edith Quay, Mr. Quay was a life-long resident of the town, which he served for 20 years as a town councilman. Mr. Quay worked for the Albany County Highway Department before going to the General Electric Company, where he was a group leader in the powerhouse. He worked at G.E. for 32 years, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of the Knox Reformed Church, and both an elder and a deacon on the. Consistory. He was a member of the Knox Historical Society, and a charter member and first president of the Knox Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Nobles Quay; four daughters — Sandra Quay of Altamont; Judith Conklin and Cynthia Quay, both of Knox, and Winona Quay of Clifton Park; one son, Roger E. Quay of Lowville (Lewis Co.), one sister, Eleanor Wright of Schenectady; eight grandchildren.— Stefanie and Adam Conklin, Matthew and Kelly Quay, Richard, Jeffrey, Daniel and Victoria Quay; and several cousin.
He had three brothers, the late Lloyd, Harold and Edward Quay. Services Will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Knox Reformed Church, Route 158. Friends may call at the Fredendall Funeral Home, l99 Main St., Altamont, between 6 and 9 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Knox Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the Knox Reformed Church, Knox, NY 12107. Quay - Nobles
Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Nobles of Ludlowville have announced the marriage of their daughter, Miss Virginia Nobles, to Herbert Quay, son of Mrs. Edith Nash, Knox, of March 24 (1946) in the Ludlowville Methodist church. Rev. Frank J. Holmes performed the candlelight ceremony.
The bride given in marriage by her father, wore white marquisette and lace over satin and a coronet of pearls with a full length veil. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses and snapdragons.
Miss Jeanne Phyllis Nobles, sister of the bride, was maid of honr, and Lynne ROberta Doria was flower girl. Lloyd Quay was best man for his brother, and Lloyd Nobles, the bride's brother, and Marshall Stevens, Knox, were ushers.
Following a reception the couple left on a wedding trip to Ottawa, Canada. The bride is a graduate of Plattsburgh Teachers college and is associate 4-H club agent in Chemung county. The bridegroom recently received his honorable discharge from the Army after three years of service include 1 1/2 years in Europe.
