Birth

Charles was born January 8, 1926 in New Scotland, New York a son of Charles and Abbie (Warner) Peck.

Marriage and Children

Charles married Blanche (Peggy) Freleigh about 1942 and had three daughters and two sons. The daughters are Betty Ann, Margaret, and Ruth Peck. The sons are Charles H. Peck III and Steven Peck.

Military Service

He was a Navy armed guard. He was one of nine survivors of a ship sunk in the English Channel during the Battle of the Bulge.

Death

Charles died November 27, 2000 at the Albany Medical Center.

Burial

Interment was December 2, 2000 in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.

WESTERLO -- Charles (Sonny) H. Peck Jr., 74, of Westerlo, NY, died November 27, 2000 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was born in New Scotland, NY on January 8, 1926, son of the late Charles and Abbie (Warner) Peck Sr. He was a Navy Armed Guard veteran of World War II, one of nine survivors from a ship sunk in the English Channel during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member of the New Salem Fire Dept., a former stock car driver at the Clearview Raceway in South Westerlo, NY, a member of the Ravena-Coeymans Sportsman Club, A & R Sportsman Club and the Westerlo Sportsman Club. Charlie was an avid trap shooter and his partner was his grandson, TJ (Stephen Savino III), and they won many trophies in state and local tournaments including 1st place in the NYS Championship, of which he was very proud. His grandson, Douglas Peck, was his constant helper around home. He was the loving husband of Blanche (Peggy) Freleigh, to whom he was married 58 years. Father of Mrs. Richard (Betty Ann) Filkins, Mrs. Frank (Margaret) Zibura, Mrs. Stephen (Ruth) Savino Jr. and Steven Peck and his wife, Melissa; brother of Edna (Terry) Wilsey, Mrs. Adriance (Alice) Loucks, Hazel Rappazzo Arsenault, Robert (Bucky) and Kenneth Sr.; and brother-in-law of Mrs. William (Betty) Dunston. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and eight grandchildren, as well as over 50 nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his son, Charles H. Peck III; a sister, Mrs. William (Grace) Moak; brothers, Clayton and Ronald; stepbrother, Donald Drucker and his granddaughter, Wendy Anne Croote and her baby, David. Funeral service will be Saturday, 9 a.m. from the Cunningham Funeral Home, Greenville, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, 6-9 p.m. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.
