Birth

Jonathan was born in about 1778 to James Palmer (B. abt 1757 New Salem, Westchester Co, NY) and his wife Rue or Rhuame. Jonathan appears to have been their third child. Sources indicate that Jonathan was born either in Coxsackie, Greene County, NY or Connecticut. If he was born in Connecticut, it is likely that it was in the Greenwich or Stamford areas as that is where his ancestors settled over a century before.

Occupation

Jonathan was a carpenter and practiced this trade while living in Rensselaerville.

Marriage & Children

Jonathan was married two times. The first marriage was to Triphena Vorris (Voorhees), who was the daughter of Jacob and Triphena Vorris (Voorhees). It is not known when she died, or which children may have been hers. His second wife was Martha Webb, who was said to have been born in 1738 in Connecticut.

Jonathan had the following children:

Death

Jonathan died on May 30, 1846.[1] His son Gilbert had moved to Gilboa in the Town of Broome, Schoharie County by 1840. Whether Jonathan moved there is unknown, however Jonathan was buried in Gilboa. When the Schoharie reservoir was constructed, his remains were relocated to West Conesville Cemetery. His grandson Charles A. Palmer of Franklin Forks, Pennsylvania was contacted at the time and arranged the relocation. Jonathan's second wife, Martha, who died on April 27, 1878, was buried at his side.
