Birth

Charles R. Miltner was born Sunday. May 30, 1920, in Jacksonville, Fl. He was the son of the late Martin and Mary Miltner. His sister was:

  • Edna Ovitt (Married William Ovitt of Florida)

Education

Occupation

He served in the Army during World War II, was an amputee, and received a Purple Heart. A former member of the Fort Hunter Volunteer Fire Department, Mr. Miltner worked for the Public Service Commission as a bus inspector, retiring in 1975.

Marriage & Children

Charles R. Miltner married Eleanor M. Smith, a daughter of Martin and Nora Gray Smith. Their children were:

  • Martin Miltner and his wife, Leni, of Columbus, Ga.
  • Charles Miltner and his wife, Janice, of Huntersviile, N.C.
  • Terry Miltner and his wife, Karen, of Scotia
  • Gary Miltner and his wife, Lisa, of Ballston Spa.
  • Carol Dexter and her fiance and caregiver, Richard Tubbs, of Knox. Carol's first husband Robert Dexter died in 1986
  • Linda Dexter and her husband, Richard, of Knox.

Death

His wife, Eleanor, died in 1995. Chuck died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at his daughter's home in Knox. He was 87. Both are buried in the Knox Cemetery in Knox.

KNOX— Charles R. Miltner, a veteran wounded in World War II who worked as a bus inspector, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at his daughter's home in Knox. He was 87.

Born in Jacksonville, Fl., he was the son of the late Martin and Mary Miltner.

He served in the Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart.

A former member of the Fort Hunter Volunteer Fire Department, Mr. Miltner worked for the Public Service Commission as a bus inspector, retiring in 1975.

His wife, Eleanor M. Miltner, died in 1995.

Mr. Miltner is survived by four sons: Martin Miltner and his wife, Leni, of Columbus, Ga.; Charles Miltner and his wife, Janice, of Huntersviile, N.C.; Terry Miltner and his wife, Karen, of Scotia; and Gary Miltner and his wife, Lisa, of Ballston Spa. He is also survived by his two daughters, Carol Dexter and her fiance and caregiver, Richard Tubbs, of Knox, and Linda Dexter and her husband, Richard, of Knox. He is also survived by his sister, Edna Ovitt and her husband, William, of Florida, as well as 19 grandchildren and 17 greatgradrichiidren and his wonderful friends, Barbara VanAuken, George Heath, and Rosie and Ed Tyman.

A funeral service will be'.held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Fredendall Funeral Home, in Altamont. Galling hours will be held from 12 noon until the funeral service begins. Burial with military honors will be in Knox Cemetery.

KNOX Charles R. Miltner, 87, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at his daughter's home in Knox. Born in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of the late Martin and Mary Miltner. Charles was a World War II Army veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked for the Public Service Commission as a bus inspector, retiring in 1975. He also was a former member of the Fort Hunter Vol. Fire Department. Charles was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor M. Miltner in 1995. Survivors include four sons, Martin (Leni) Miltner of Columbus, Ga., Charles (Janice) Miltner of Huntersville, N.C., Terry (Karen) Miltner of Scotia, and Gary (Lisa) Miltner of Ballston Spa; two daughters, Carol Dexter and her fianc? and caregiver, Richard Tubbs of Knox and Linda (Richard) Dexter of Knox; one sister, Edna (William) Ovitt of Fla. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and his wonderful friends, Barbara VanAuken, George Heath, Rosie and Ed Tyman. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in Knox Cemetery.
